Clinical Capabilities

|
Long duration ISS and exploration missions will require increased autonomous medical care to mitigate the expected risks. Research and technology efforts focus on: standards, protocols, and procedures for diagnosis and treatment; diagnostic and laboratory technologies to support extended medical care; and methods and procedures to assess adverse drug interactions and side effects. Shelf life of pharmaceuticals must be extended. Training in medical care will use expert systems and telemedicine procedures in light of the communication limitations.
